We met last night for our the first of 8 sessions. The food addicts group . . .
I felt good knowing I could shine a light on one good path up out of the bondage of food addiction. Yeah, I have one good working flashlight and it has carried me this far. I am free as long as I am abstinent, as long as food is not my recreation and it is just food to nourish my machine. When did it become so skewed? When food that was seasonal and transient became the norm on every street block. We were meant to binge on highly salient foods such as sugar/starch, salt and sugar. Meant to eat and then subsist on proteins and greens foraged. The times, they have changed yet we remain the same.
Next week we will be studying more on dopamine and the reward deficiency issue.
I am safe and sober.
Ooopsies… Surely you meant to say that We were NOT “meant to binge on highly salient foods such as sugar/starch, salt and sugar.”
I agree – the path to an ideal body weight is through eating proteins and greens.
However, proteins have to be somewhat limited because they will turn into glucose if too much is consumed.
The major “enemy” is carbohydrates which should be restricted to around 50 grams per day. Personally, I keep mine under 30 grams per day while keeping overall calories around 1200.
Fats do not have to limited. Saturated fats do not harm the body, do not cause weight gain, and do not raise lipid levels. The world is finally catching up to what people in the Diabetic communities have known and preached for a long, LONG time, which is that Fats are not the enemy. Carbs have to be very restricted (less than 50 gr/day), and Protein must be consumed in moderation.
I personally know people who eat a diet of 75% fat and they lab numbers & BMII are perfect.
Keep up the great work, Whitney!!
Thanks for letting us in on your group. I’m interested to continue reading the effects of dopamine levels.
